I’m a computer and electronics technician, so I buy a lot of cables, adapters, gender changers, switch boxes, matrixes, etc. Much of the time, the cables, adapters, etc., that I buy show up in generic white boxes – that are barely more than pressed paper – with little or no writing on the outside and limited information inside related to the product itself. That was not the case with this 50-Foot Fiber Optic HDMI Cable from Ivanky. I was impressed with the product from the moment I received it.
The packaging is NOT a flimsy, plain white box. It came in a sturdy, cool-looking black box with silver writing and a small touch of red. Inside the box, the cable was well-packaged and well-protected, and included very nice cable ties. The HDMI cable ends were protected not only by hard plastic dust covers, but also with a netting that I thought was a nice touch. Additionally, the information provided included warranty details, usage instructions, and specifications.
I was surprised at how thin and flexible this cable is, especially given the fact that it is 50-feet long. Generally, the greater the distance between cable ends, the thicker the cable tends to be to protect the signal traveling inside from interference. Not this cable, though. As you can see from the pictures I’ve included, it is quite thin, and after a few minutes to settle after being released from the nice Velcro ties it came secured with, it was very flexible and laid quite flat across the length of the entire run between source and display.
Please Be Aware: This is NOT a bi-directional cable. One specific end MUST be connected to the Source and the other end MUST be connected to the display. I typically don’t like
Single Direction cables, as it is almost always very difficult to determine which end is which. Is this the source end or the display end? Is this the display end or the source end? However, this was NOT a problem with the Ivanky cable. The word “Source” is very clearly printed on one end of the cable and the word “Display” is very clearly printed on the other end.
If you’ve read this far, you’re probably saying, “Okay, enough about the packaging and appearance and all of that. How did it perform?” And my answer is: The performance was EXCELLENT.
For the first connection I made with this cable, I connected the Source end to my gaming computer and the Display end to a Samsung 55-inch 4K TV. I was able to achieve 4K resolution at 60Hz on the Samsung TV using this cable with no screen tearing, no lag, and no jittering. It looked perfect.
Next, I connected the same computer to the same display with this Ivanky Fiber Optic Cable and made it a secondary display while using my desktop monitor as the primary display. I changed the resolution to 2560X1440 (Quad HD), and again experienced no lag, no jitters, and no screen tearing, even when I was playing intense, high-hardware-demand PC Games. And the screen connected with this cable looked absolutely stunning. I was also pleased that I could run separate refresh rates for the computer monitor and the TV with no argument from my system or the connected cables. My desktop monitor runs 2560X1440 at 144Hz, while the TV I had connected maxed out at 60Hz. In the past I’ve had lower end cables that failed to produce a proper image when there were two different refresh rates selected for different attached displays. That was not a problem with this cable. The desktop monitor looked great at a 144Hz refresh rate and the TV connected via the Ivanky Cable displayed perfectly at 60Hz.
Please Note: This is an HDMI 2.0B Cable, and as such, it does NOT support 4K at 120Hz or 8K at 60Hz. An HDMI 2.1 cable would be required to achieve those resolutions and refresh rates. But at 4K 60Hz and at Quad HD, this cable does a really, really nice job. And because of its thin diameter and flexibility, it is very easy to work with.
The bottom line: Would I buy this cable again or recommend it to a friend or customer? Without question, YES, I would buy this cable again and YES, I would recommend it to a friend or a customer. I am delighted with both the performance, and the aesthetic.
Well Done, iVANKY. You got it right.
